Oi oi!
I go by the moniker Dynamite Man.EXE round the 'net these days. I'm delving my hand around various areas, including drawing, reblogging posts of particular interest, and maybe sharing some events (though I'll do my best to keep that to a minimum).
This here blog is a culmination of the above,

if you search a tag on someone’s blog on the mobile app it will show you only a selection of posts in an inscrutably random order but if you go to a mobile browser and type [blog url].tumblr.com/tagged/[tag] you will get all posts on that blog with that tag in reverse chronological order. if you add /chrono behind it you get them in regular chronological order. naturally this works in desktop browsers too but i know many people are mobile only these days and the app’s built in tag search is shit so this knowledge is vital to your survival

Hello, I’m SilverStarSheep, and I am offering commissions to support my family.

I am offering $10 full body sketches, which are cheaper than normal, and I’m offering a large number of HQ OC designs. Additionally, if you buy a design and add $7, I’ll make a full body sketch of that OC!

Please note that I’m dealing with issues in my hands, and therefore I must pace myself. Thanks for your understanding.

It would really help us out right now, as we’re struggling financially, and can’t seem to get our heads above the water…

Here’s some advice I wasn’t told from the myriad of posts before that I wish I’d been given before

  • Wash the OUTSIDE of your pots and pans as well as the cooking surface. I’ve had a few roommates now who have only cleaned the inside and I’ve had to replace a $150 set of cookware twice.
  • “its only one time, how bad could using metal on nonstick cookware really be?” very bad. don’t do this.
  • Buy a rice cooker. Buy the middle tier rice cooker. Cheap ones will burn your rice, high tier ones are too expensive. Rice is good and cheap and, really, you don’t actually have to wash it if you don’t care about making gourmet food.
  • Buy band-aids. You don’t think you need band-ads until you need a band-aid, and by then it’s too late. (if you don’t follow this advice, a paper towel and some tape is an acceptable solution while you go get real bandages and neosporin)
  • You are on tumblr, which means you probably spend most of your time in one spot on a computer or phone. if this spot doesn’t have a trash can in arm’s reach, put one there.
    •  I spent 4 years piling trash on my desk in increasingly precarious ways until I had a designated area to put it. Trash cans can and should go anywhere there is a frequent generation of trash, typical locations be damned.
  • If you live with one or two roommates, discuss placing empty boxes in the back of your fridge and freezer. You probably don’t need all the space that the standard 5-person-family fridge provides, and tupperware will be shoved back there and left to stink up the entire appliance.
  • Get a wall calendar, put it somewhere communal, and have everyone put their household-relevant schedules on it. Communication is by far the weakest link with roommates (even good ones!) and having something to reference for appointments is always good

Hey this post is pretty good but please always wash your rice. It’s not to make it taste better, it’s to remove aflatoxin, which is created by a very widespread type of fungus and as such is present on most unwashed produce. Chronic exposure to aflatoxin leads to higher risk of liver and gallbladder cancer. I don’t blame anyone for not knowing this, as I didn’t until I started taking classes about cancer for my microbiology degree. Please always wash all of your produce and especially your rice, as it has a much higher surface area to volume ratio meaning that it can have a lot more aflatoxin on it than other produce if you don’t wash it.

games are great. go play some games.

this post is almost a year old now and still going around, so i figured i’d add a few things!

archive.org has full collections for a lot of different consoles. there are too many to link here, but most of them can be found by searching “redump [console name]”. while their download speeds are pretty slow, their completeness makes them good when you can’t find something anywhere else.

vimm is always an option as well, as people seem determined to remind me. they’re similarly slow to archive, but can be decent for grabbing certain smaller games.

the /r/roms megathread is another great place for finding links to consoles that are less common on a lot of sites. it’s usually where i head for PS2 stuff.

cdromance is pretty good for ps1/saturn, though their collection isn’t the most complete.

to end off: a lot of cd-based games you download may be in .chd format (especially on edge in particular). this doesn’t play nice with all emulators, nor with real hardware, so here’s a zip file i put together that includes chdman, a tool for creating and extracting CHDs, and qchdman, a GUI version of it.

astounding how quickly the Super Mario 3D All Stars announcement went from “oh, Nintendo’s actually doing something cool for once, nice” to “oh fuck you nintendo” at mach 7 speeds

ebay exclusive game release

I should probably says something about how this is an insanely unprecedented scumbag tactic on their part that creates artificial scarcity towards a product people were already complaining was scarce in the first place and that you should pirate media constantly and always to prevent big corporations from doing shady shit like this to you all the time but instead I’m gonna say more like nintendo bitch lol

Yo ho ho, me bottle of rum.

If you wish (because you should!) pirate these games:

Here’s where to download Dolphin, a better GameCube and Wii emulator than what Nintendo’s offering, that can output to higher resolutions and widescreen.

Super Mario 64 PC was a project that completely reverse-engineered Super Mario 64 and allows you to play it perfectly at any resolution you would like. Plus, people are making mods for it every day (you’ll have to hunt a download yourself though)

If you wish to support good ports of old games out there, ports that actually add new features and that are worried about preserving games and putting them out there for new audiences:

SEGA 3D Classics was a line of extremely high quality SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis and Arcade ports that not only allowed you to play these games with the 3D feature of the 3DS, but that routinely added completely new modes and features to these games, most of which focused on making these old games more accessible, on top of just being able to play these old games as they were, perfectly.

SEGA AGES is a sort of continuation of the SEGA 3D Classics line, but for the Switch and not the 3DS, so no 3D. Same deal though - extremely high quality ports of SEGA classics with new features. Including online play in some games! It features world’s first perfect port of Virtua Racing, using the original arcade code, with online play and 1080p resolution!

The Megaman Zero/ZX Collection features all 4 Megaman Zero games, plus the 2 ZX games,
with a new optional checkpoint system that makes these games a lot easier and less punishing to get through, and a new racing mode where you can compete with a friend or a CPU who can get through a level faster. Plus a huge extensive gallery of all the art and concept art of these games.

Collection of Mana is a collection of all three classic Mana/Seiken Densetsu games, including the never-before translated Seiken Densetsu 3!
A legendary Action RPG that since the 90s, western fans lamented it never being released outside of Japan. Well, now it has! With the translated title Trials of Mana!

Speaking of titles that were never before released outside of Japan or translated, Moon: Remix RPG Adventure is an incredibly interesting and forward-thinking Playstation 1 “anti-RPG” made by some of the people who have worked on all-time classics like Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, about befriending people rather than killing monsters. It is one of the main inspirations for Undertale. It is a hidden gem even in Japan, so it being ported and translated was completely a labor of love situation, so please support it if this game interests you!

The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a preservationist’s preservationist collection. It’s a collection of very old, very early SNK games, pre-Neo Geo era. Games that haven’t been ported anywhere else or are often forgotten. It’s filled to the brim with games and concept art.

There’s also the Contra Collection and two Castlevania collections, one that’s more focused on their more classic titles and another that’s just the two most held-up Castlevania games, Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, in one package. Rondo of Blood in particular, wasn’t brought over to the west at all originally. It’s only release outside of Japan was on a PSP remake of it, so this is, outside of emulation, pretty much the only way to play one of the best Castlevania games out there.

As you can see, there’s a TON of really amazing preservationist releases out there, so maybe instead of playing Mario, you could both say “no” to this incredibly sleazy tactic of Nintendo, AND expand your interest and find new favorite games you wouldn’t have ever played before with all these great re-releases out there!
